QUEER HISTORY IN PHYSICS

1912-1954: Alan Turing becomes one of the first well known queer physicists who made significant contributions to computer science

1958: Astronomer Frank Kameny fired from federal government for same-sex relations. He filed a grievance for his firing which was the first such suit.

2009: Then graduate student Dr. Elena Long brings up LGBT+ issues to APS committee on women. Shortly after forms grass roots group, LGBT+ Physicists.

2015: LGBT Climate in Physics Report Published

2014: First known unofficial LGBT Meetup at AAPT, organized through PERTG by Ramón Barthelemy

2016: First official LGBT meetup at AAPT organized by.... (New Orleans)

​

2017: AAPT Committee on Diversity in Physics requests adding gender pronoun option to name tags
